Webcomic Updates: The Calm Before the Storm

It’s been ages since I’ve done one of these posts, hasn’t it? I wanted to be further along in Echo Effect already, but I’ve been busy with commissions, and paid work needs to come first.

Anyway, here are the latest strips, plus some trivia about them!

#199 (Website / Blogspot)

  • The last time Nicholas looked at photos of himself, he tore them up and cried. So, even though this isn't exactly a happy strip, I still view it as a positive one.
  • The outfits seen in that photo album are the same ones Nicholas wore throughout volume one.

#200 (Website / Blogspot)

  • Even though I’ve had the entire series plotted since 2012, I’m never quite sure which strip certain scenes will land on, so I was glad to have something this pivotal for #200!
  • Coco and Nicholas are both wearing the outfits they had on at the start of the webcomic! (Not counting Coco’s nightwear from the first two strips, obviously…)

#201 (Website / Blogspot)

  • I originally planned for there to be more details—like, y’know, people—in the background, but I just couldn’t get it to work. (High school hallways will be the death of me. Well, the death of my drawing hand. Same thing, right?)
  • There was supposed to be another strip between this one and #200, while they were still in front of Nicholas’ house. I realized it ended on a similar beat to this one, though, so I nixed it.
* * *

Strip #202 is currently being drawn, so...hopefully it won't be too long before all of you can see it!

  1. You're right about the positive step for Nicholas since he didn't tear up the photos this time. I didn't even think of that when I first saw it, I just felt sorry for him. But, baby steps are good!

    1. Heh, yeah, most people seemed to think this strip was sad at the time. That's my fault, since I've been so slow with updating Echo Effect lately. Been ages since people saw the strip where he tears up his photos!

  2. Yay! It's been so much fun reading along, following the progression of the story, even if it's not going as fast as you'd hoped.

    1. Thanks, Crystal! I keep trying to update Echo Effect more consistently again, but it's hard, so...hopefully people don't hate me too much for that. Haha.

    1. People can hire me to draw artwork or comic strips, in both digital and printed formats. More details are on my website: http://www.edgyauthor.com/commissions

  4. Paid commissions! Woohoo! That's awesome! It's great you've found the time to work on Nick and Coco, too. Don't worry about background people. It works without.

    1. Thanks, Lexa! I still wish I could've drawn the background better, but those things are still one of my weaknesses, haha.

    1. Thanks, Sherry! The next strip has a lot of panels, since I decided to squeeze three strips into one, so...it might take a while for me to post, haha.

    1. Thanks for stopping by again! I've been busy with commissions and other art, so I haven't been able to post as much as I should. Trying to at least catch up with the blogosphere a little, though, since I'm so behind!

    1. Yeah, I really wish I could update Echo Effect more frequently, but I need to take care of commissions first and foremost. Hopefully I can figure out how to balance the two better in the future!

  14. Hmm, I really thought I commented on here already, but I guess I didn't. Well, now I'm here! I always enjoy Echo Effect, and I'm a big behind-the-scenes nerd (about anything), so I look forward to more trivia! P.S. I don't think the background is a big deal. I didn't even notice until you pointed it out.

  15. Since you've got the ending of the comics figured out, please clue me in. Will Nicholas ever gain confidence? He just makes me feel so sad for him. And poor Coco doesn't know what to do for him. Paid work my a%% where are my comics?

    1. I can't spoil anything, but I will say that Nicholas' character is still changing. Whether those changes will be good or bad (or both!)...well, you'll just have to wait and see! ;)

And LOL, paid work helps make sure I have the funds to keep Echo Effect up and running, so...yeah. Heh.
