Heather Vs. WIP

*accidentally breaks a horror project I thought I had fixed*

*searches through all my folklore books in hopes of having a lightbulb moment*

*doesn’t have a lightbulb moment*

*realizes what a character’s favorite song is, though, ‘cause that’s obviously so very helpful*

*buys a sketchbook purely to work on character designs for said project*

*feels depressed by my (lack of) skills within the first few pages*

*flails for eternity*

EDIT: This post is meant to be silly and lighthearted.

  1. the expression of your new icon captures this post - you're so talented! being a complete dunderhead about anxiety and depression, i thought art would be more of a release and boost! what goes down eventually comes back up - and i hope you find what you need to persevere. if that means a blogging break, that's ok! we'll be here for you either way.

    1. I'm a hopeless perfectionist, so nothing's ever a "release and boost" for me...LOL.

  2. I'm sorry to hear that you're struggling with this WIP. I think we creative types always have ups and downs. This is just a tough moment, but you'll find your way back up. And like Tara said, we're here to support you no matter what.

    1. I struggle with all my WIPs during the planning stage, since I'm such a thorough plotter, haha. I posted this since I thought other storytellers could relate to having a muse as fickle as mine... XD

  3. I know the feeling. Sometimes it seems impossible, but you'll get there. :)

    1. The seeds of this project have been in my head for over a decade, so it better, LOL.

  4. I hear you!!! Sometimes it's just tough to get it out or to get it organized or to get it just right. So many ways for it to go sideways :) Keep on truckin'

    1. LOL, definitely. My project is probably sideways, inside out, and upside down right now... XD

  5. Oh, that sounds like my WIP Champion's Destiny right now - I thought I had it going in the right direction, and then I stopped, and then I started, and then I stopped, and then . . . well, you get the idea. One day it will make it out of the nightmare of revision and into a polished final.

    1. LOL, "nightmare" is a perfect word for this, for sure. Good luck getting everything figured out for Champion's Destiny, finally!

  6. Keep on working! Stuff that makes us go grrr, ACK, ug, and eek! sometimes turns out to be our best. :)

    1. LOL, that'd be nice, if true! It could very well end up becoming my best mess, though... XD

  8. If you know your mc's favorite song, that can help you. What's the message in the song? What does your mc want? If you know what he really wants, then you just have to figure out ways to keep him from getting it! (We writers are so mean! lol)

    1. LOL, it's a little more complicated than that, since figuring out what she wants isn't really my problem right now! It deals more with world-building than anything. (I can't go into more detail than that, since I'm trying to avoid spoilers, haha.)

  9. Darn those light bulb moments! They never come when you need them.

    1. I'm pretty certain the muses are holding those poor lightbulbs hostage... XD

  10. Oh dear, if only we could control those lightbulb moments with the flick of a switch!

    1. LOL, I'd probably burn my lightbulb out very quickly if that were possible... XD

  11. A favorite song is at least something. My characters' minds and my own often come up blank when I try to think of things like favorite songs.

    1. Funny thing is, I wasn't even trying to learn her favorite song. I just happened to be listening to it when she chimed in to let me know that little factoid. LOL. Characters are weird... XD

  12. Except for the part about the sketchbook (just insert Spiral Notebook instead), I could have written this post. Although I'm not sure what my MC's favorite song is. But, boy, I really want to know.

    1. As fun as it is to know her favorite song, I wish she would've revealed something more plot-related instead, LOL.

  13. I'd say your character chiming in was a pretty magical event! Is your character's fave tune one of yours as well? Do you even like it? Wouldn't it suck if you didn't??? (Or if one of the other characters didn't?) (What if one of the other characters REALLY HATED IT???)

    1. It's a song I enjoy quite a bit, thankfully! For this series, I know the music taste of three of my characters so far, and...they couldn't be further different. LOL. Lindley and Spencer even mock each other for it, but it's all in good fun... :)
