Wherein TV Becomes Crazy and Sleepy

I’ve been watching less and less TV over the past year. For once, it’s not just because I have this uncanny ability to jinx shows into early cancellation. TV is time-consuming, and I’d rather have that time consumed by art. I even gave up shows I still liked, but that simply weren’t addictive enough to be worthy of procrastination anymore. There are only five returning shows I plan to keep watching as a result, four of which are sitcoms, which is always less taxing on my free time. I really don’t feel the need to add any new shows to that list…

…except there are two I already know I won’t be able to resist checking out the premieres of this fall:

The Crazy Ones

Do I even need to explain what this sitcom is about? It stars Sarah Michelle Gellar and Robin Freakin’ Williams. That’s too epic to pass up!

What, you do want to know what it’s about? Fine, check out this vid:

Sleepy Hollow

This show has been described as a modern-day retelling of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. The most I know about the original story is from an episode of Wishbone, but this awesomely eerie trailer was enough to win me over!

What about the rest of you? What new shows are you looking forward to this fall? Do you also try being conservative with your TV time like me so it doesn’t get in the way of productivity?

  1. Wow I had not heard of that SMG show, so now I'm curious!

I'm planning to watch the JJ Abrams show with Karl Urban but I can't remember the name. It's scifi.

    WISHBONE!!!!!

    1. I remember hearing about the SMG show a while back and am glad the pilot got picked up, since it looks like heaps of fun!

Don't think I've heard of that sci-fi show. Hope you enjoy it!

And oh, you know Wishbone? Awesome!

  2. Oh, Sleepy Hollow will definitely be on my must-watch list. There's also a CW show called Reign that's about Mary Queen of Scots that I won't be able to resist.

And I'm a total TV addict. I know I'd get so much more work done if I'd just turn it off once and a while, but I just can't help myself.

    1. I've heard of Reign, but I'm really wary of trying out any new shows from the CW, since that network is always prematurely canceling the shows I like from them!

I tend to be a TV addict, too, so I understand how hard it is to resist. Still can't believe how much TV I've cut back this year despite that!

  3. Like you, I limit my TV time so I'm being more productive, but I also have two teenagers, so when they take a minute to watch TV, I usually watch alongside them so we can chat about the show and anything else that comes up while we're watching.

    1. Heh, I can see how it'd be impossible to avoid TV entirely when teenagers are around!

  4. I try to limit my tv time, and have a tendency to watch reruns on Netflix.

    1. I seem to be the only person out there without Netflix, so that helps keep me from getting sucked into even more TV shows! XD

  5. Wow, I'm way behind. I'm just now looking for my summer cable shows to come back. I haven't even thought about what's new for the fall.

    1. I had been Googling to see which shows I watch were coming back this fall, which is how I ended up learning about all the new ones!

  6. I was such a huge Buffy fan that I know I'll be checking Gellar's show out. Love her. Sleepy Hollow looks awesome.
I give you credit for limiting your tv time. That's something I NEED to do, but I am a total junkie LOL.

    1. Sarah Michelle Gellar is great! I never fail to love her TV shows--I'm still sad that Ringer was cancelled as soon as it was--so I'm hoping this show will be a winner, too.

And hey, I'm a total TV junkie, too, so if I can learn to cut some shows from my schedule, there's a chance you'll be able to one day as well! ;)

  7. Very cool. I just recently heard about these two shows. My fall TV schedule is filling up!

    1. So is mine! I'm hopeful that no other new shows will grab my interest, but knowing how much I love TV, I'll probably check out more than the ones I've mentioned, anyway. XD

  8. I really wish you hadn't shown that preview of The Crazy Ones. I've been doing so well avoiding the tele lately with Game of Thrones, Big Bang Theory and Supernatural being the only exceptions. :::sigh::: Fortunately, DVR lets me consolidate my viewing and fast forward through ads. It's my compromise. :-)

    1. At least The Crazy Ones is only a half hour long, so it won't be too much of a time-eater! ;)

  9. These sound great! As long as there are no vampires in Creepy Hollow, I'm on board! :-)

    1. I like vampires, but it doesn't look like there will be any in this show, so I think you're safe. ;)

  10. Sleepy Hollow looks good! But then, I like pretty much anything spooky. I've just started watching a new French show called The Returned (Les Revenants). I've only seen one episode but I'm already hooked. It's very atmospheric and has lots of mysteries to untangle. Apart from that though, I'm like you - I'm dropping shows more than adding them. Which is a good thing, as it gives me more time to read and write!

    1. Don't think I've heard of The Returned, but I love shows that are atmospheric and mysterious, so now I'm intrigued!

And I agree, there's definitely more time to be productive when giving up shows. So much can get accomplished in an hour normally reserved for TV!
