Characters Controlling Christmas

My characters often dictate what kind of music I listen to. It’s also the holiday season. You know what that means?

Yep: my characters have complete and utter control of my Christmas playlist right now!

Fritz, the protagonist of my WIP Cruel Melody, has been making me listen to Lindsey Stirling’s “Celtic Carol,” since—as a violinist—it’s something he’d easily perform as well as listen to:

My Echo Effect characters, on the other hand, have been making me listen to “The Christmas Song” by the Raveonettes, simply because it’s a song they dig:

What about the rest of you? What holiday songs do you have on repeat, if any, regardless if a character is demanding it or not?

  1. I always play the Nightmare Before Christmas soundtrack at this time of year. I love all the cheesy songs, but simply don't have them on CD. I sing carols endlessly around the house too!

    1. Love The Nightmare Before Christmas! I still need to get the soundtrack, although I do own a few covers of those songs. I'll have to remember to listen to the couple I have of "What's This?" ;)

    2. You should get 'Nightmare Revisited'; the full soundtrack covered by various bands. 'What's This' is covered by Flyleaf and it is simply beautiful.

    3. That's one of the versions I have! I couldn't resist buying that cover last year since Flyleaf is my favorite band. :)

  2. I have a small child and that's who dictates the music I listen to. Too many annoying versions of Jingle Bells out there! ACK!

    1. Yikes, I can imagine! Hopefully there are a few good versions in the mix to make it all a little more tolerable. ;)

  3. I've been playing Michael Buble's Christmas album to try to get myself in a festive mood, though my absolute favourite Christmas song is "Fairytale of New York" - I love to sing along to that one!

    1. I don't know many songs by Michael Buble, admittedly, but his cover of "All I Want for Christmas is You" is one of the few I do, and I thought it was well done. I imagine the rest on that Christmas album are as well!

  4. I love the Trans-Siberian Orchestra's Christmas Eve in Sarajevo. It's my ring tone right now.

    Happy Holidays!

  5. I've been playing The Hobbit Song of the Lonely Mountain over and over. Not a Christmas song.... but it's so good and I just saw the Hobbit.

Other than that I've been playing Greensleeves over and over - on the piano, practicing for a charity Christmas concert. :)

    1. She really is! I love listening to her album, but her videos are truly impressive. "Shadows" is one of my favorites to watch!

  7. Funny when I was putting up the Christmas tree with my kids, they asked to listen to Switchfoot, in lieu of Christmas songs. Which I was very happy to put on!

    Have a wonderful holiday season!

    1. Haha, awesome! As great as Christmas music can be, it does become a bit much after a while. (I've been listening to normal songs myself the past couple days!)

Happy holidays to you as well! :)
